COLD SHOWERS · 30 DAYS
A cold shower a day, starting with fifteen seconds.
A cold shower challenge is less about toughness and more about a small choice you keep making. Start with a few seconds of cold at the end of a normal shower and build from there.
Start warm, finish cold
You don’t have to start in the cold. Shower as usual, then turn the tap to cold for the last few seconds. That is a day done. Over the month the cold part gets a little longer; the warm part is up to you.
A 30-day plan
| Week | Cold at the end | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 15 seconds | Long, slow breaths out. |
| 2 | 30 seconds | Legs and arms first, then chest and back. |
| 3 | 1 minute | Relax your shoulders and jaw. |
| 4 | 1–2 minutes | Or a fully cold shower, if you’ve come to like it. |
How cold is cold? Whatever your cold tap gives. There is no temperature to hit and no prize for suffering.
Make it easier on yourself
- Breathe out slowly instead of holding your breath.
- Count out loud, or play one song and stop when it ends.
- Keep a towel and warm clothes within reach.
- Tie it to the same shower every day, so there is nothing to decide.
Who should ask first
Cold water makes most people gasp and speeds up the heart for a moment. If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, are pregnant, or are unsure, ask a doctor before you start. Keep this challenge to the shower, not open water, and stop if you feel dizzy, numb or unwell.
Track it in ProofDays
Set it up as Cold shower, a daily check-in, 30 days.
- Set the target once. Reps, minutes, or simply done. Pick the length (3 to 365 days) and how often: every day, or every 2 to 7 days with rest days that never break your streak.
- Stamp the day. One tap when you are done. Log extra reps whenever you do them; the total counts them all. A reminder at the time you choose, and a gentle nudge at 8 pm if you haven’t stamped yet.
- Miss one, keep going. Each challenge has a Streak Shield that covers one missed day automatically.
- Keep the proof. Take an optional before photo. At the end you get a before-and-after proof card and a short reveal video. Both are free to share.
- Bring someone. Invite a partner or a small group to the same challenge and cheer each other on.
These plans are general ideas, not medical advice. If you are new to exercise, pregnant, recovering from an injury or have a health condition, check with a doctor or physiotherapist first, and stop if something hurts.
Questions
How long should a cold shower be for a beginner?+
A few seconds of cold at the end of a warm shower is a fine start. Add 15 to 30 seconds a week; many people settle at one to two minutes.
Do I have to take a fully cold shower?+
No. Ending a normal shower with cold counts. You decide what counts when you set the challenge.
Do cold showers boost immunity or burn fat?+
The evidence for claims like these is limited and mixed, so we don’t promise them. Many people do it for the feeling of starting the day with something hard, and that is reason enough.
What if I skip a day?+
In ProofDays a Streak Shield covers one missed day automatically, so one skipped shower doesn’t reset your month.
